How many ways can we share our stories? What do we find when we reach beyond the spoken word collectively? This is a space to weave our storytelling practices together to imagine new worlds...

INTERWOVEN is the latest installment of an ongoing series curated by Mia Garcia Mười, and Kyla Rain -- pieced together with the intent of extending bounds between human connection, sonic discourse and audio/visual storytelling.

The evening's performance will feature eight musicians all from various musical backgrounds, four live painters, and one movement artist. Each element of the show will be fully improvised, unfolding as a reactionary discourse in real time. With these ideas in mind, our musicians will ebb and flow together, responding to our movement artist as they weave their way through the crowd. Positioned in opposite corners of the room, our painters will then visualize the music through their own distinct artistic styles.

Attendees will be encouraged to explore throughout the space, taking in the sonic dialogue and visual interpretations -- our double quadrophonic sound system allowing for an added layer of immersion.

Accompanying our performance will be a film screening and DJ set. Food and tea will be provided upon entry and is included with the price of admission.

Join us Saturday, December 2nd at Navel (1611 S Hope St, Los Angeles, CA 90015). Doors will open promptly at 7pm, with our performance beginning around 8pm.

Money collected from this event will go towards the Los Angeles-based transitional housing program Francisco Homes. Please keep this in mind when purchasing your ticket.

Francisco Homes is the only residential program specific to Lifers in the state of California, receiving thousands of requests for transitional housing each year. It is a model for Restorative Justice and Comprehensive (Holistic) Community Integration for those who have been incarcerated long term.

There has been a desperate need for supportive transitional housing for individuals with an indeterminate “life” sentence seeking to solidify their parole plans as a prerequisite for release. The Francisco Homes provides physical/mental health support (an assigned Community Health Worker, individual therapy, group therapy as well as family reunification counseling), case management, creative writing groups, acting/theater programs, volunteerism, art/music expression, workshops, life skills support (meal prep, financial literacy, and legal skills) and opportunities for community service.

We hope to see you there!
